Mose Tolliver
Obituary, 2006, USA Today: Mose Tolliver, who signed his paintings "Mose T," has died. Tolliver, believed to be about 82, succumbed to pneumonia Monday in Montgomery, Ala., where he lived. Our Gannett colleagues at the Montgomery Advertiser note that Tolliver "gained fame in the early 1980s when he was featured in the 1982 show 'Black Folk Art in America: 1930-1980' at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C." The Associated Press writes that he was "one of the leaders of the modern-day 'outsider art' movement." Tolliver's works, the Advertiser writes, are "in permanent collections of museums throughout the country, including the Museum of American Folk Art in New York, the High Museum Folk Art and Photography Galleries, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Smithsonian Institution and the New Orleans Museum of Art." |
