BIO:
Since 1999, Jason Rohlf and his family have called Brooklyn, New York their home. Ever responsive to his environment this physical move fueled a shift in the artwork as he began to adapt his trademark technique in a more streamlined, graphic way that on closer inspection reveals a confluence of renewal and decay. The modern economy of his style masks the immense depth and subtle intricacy of these extraordinarily layered works often times only visible in relief. The hallmark of his unique painting style has always been his striking balance of color and textures. Building a palimpsest of mixed-media techniques including acrylic, graphite and collage he creates multi-layered abstract paintings on canvas, wood and paper. Each painting imparts a small, complex world of its own yet this depth is countered by Rohlf’s choices of simple one-word titles such as “guide”, “permeate” and “connect," allowing for various interpretations of his intents.
Born in Wisconsin in 1970, Jason Rohlf has dedicated his artistic efforts to exploring and conveying complex, visceral imagery through painting.
