Pam Pauly
(b. 1940)
Pam Pauly was born and raised in Chicago, IL. While she began drawing
as a young child, she recalls her earliest influence to have occurred
during a trip with her family to New York City. Stuck in the Holland
tunnel in the family car for many hours, she was stunned by the daylight
and grandeur of the tall city buildings as they finally pulled out of
the darkness. From that point on she was drew city images, mostly based
on New York City and Chicago. She loves buildings, tunnels and bridges.
As an adult Pam Pauly has split her time between New York City, Chicago
and Provincetown, Massachusetts. For many years she drew and painted
on just about any object she could find, including small piece of furniture,
found objects, cardboard and the walls of many a “cold water flat”.
In addition to her artwork, Pauly worked in the theater as an actor
and a writer. She also taught classes at several universities, including
Columbia University in New York City. Most recently she has added to
her repertoire a love of figure skating, which she also teaches in Chicago.
Pauly's artwork is in private collections across the country. In 2001
her art was featured in an exhibition at the Evansville Museum of Art
in Evansville, Indiana entitled "Outsider Art".
